The Red Lava Edition gong driver stands out with its exceedingly colorful head dyed in a brilliant red, which is made of pure natural rubber. In addition to the gaudy color scheme, however, the sound is particularly convincing: the only very gently roughened surface of the Red Lava Edition gong friction mallet by Olli Hess makes a multifaceted sound play possible that goes beyond all previously known tones. The natural rubber presents itself from an incredibly soft and side. This special surface texture is also the reason for the uniqueness of the sounds that can be created with the Red Lava Edition gong driver by Olli Hess.
Heavenly soft tones thanks to a soft surface
With the Red Lava Edition gong driver by Olli Hess, we are breaking new ground – not only visually, when the surface of the natural rubber presents itself in a radiant red, but above all in terms of the sound experience. Thus, the surface of the Red Lava Edition gong friction mallet was not processed with arrows and rasp as usual to generate a rough surface, but remained as natural as possible – and therefore shows a particularly soft side.
The very soft surface of the natural rubber allows a unique sound experience when playing the singing bowl or gong, which has many more facets than conventional mallets. Thus, the Red Lava Edition gong driver can be used to create both bright and deep sounds, depending on which surface it is applied to. Additionally, of course, the material of your singing bowl or gong affects the sound experience, as does the size of the gong driver you choose. So there are no limits to your creativity – you can immerse yourself in a beautiful and varied world of spectacular sound nuances with the Red Lava Edition mallet.
Playing the gong without fatigue
The handle of the Red Lava Edition gong friction mallet consists of a 6 mm wide and 16.5 m long stem, which fits perfectly in the hand due to its shape. To prevent signs of fatigue, it was very important for us to also adjust the weight accordingly. Weighing in at just 20 grams, the gong driver’s handle is exceptionally light, ensuring that you can give yourself over completely to the sound play. Of course, we also make sure here to use only sustainable and preferably regional raw materials to meet all ethical requirements with our Red Lava Edition gong driver.

Another special feature is the visible inclusion seams that are created during the manufacturing process. While conventional gong rubbers grind down the base material after the baking process so that the seams are no longer visible, we do not do this with the Red Lava Edition rubber. In this way, the soft surface is possible – and each mallet is an absolutely unique piece, because the small influences from the casting are still visible. The resulting production waste is also minimized by this approach.
Natural rubber in its purest form – the ethical standards of Olli Hess
We pay meticulous attention to the careful selection of all raw materials in the production of our gong friction mallet – and of course also in the Red Lava Edition by Olli Hess. All our gong drivers and gong mallets are vegan. For raw material supplies, we rely on suppliers with whom we have been working for many years and whose quality we are convinced of. Whenever possible, we use regional products in order to save on delivery routes and protect the environment.
The entire production of our Red Lava Edition gong drivers takes place in Germany under constantly recurring quality controls to create products that meet the demands of our customers as well as ourselves. Olli Hess himself personally monitors the production of our gong drivers – to make sure that only the best goods leave the warehouse. The material allows you to elicit pleasant and sensual sounds from your instrument. The use of treated natural rubber in the handle and head of the mallet, makes it particularly resistant and prevents scratches or other damage to the gong. In addition, the purely vegan natural rubber also provides an insanely wide variety of sounds.

Care and tips The Lava Edition gong drivers are high quality gong drivers made from a natural rubber. The balls are handmade and are therefore all slightly different.
If you want to have fun with your new gong driver for a long time then I ask you to consider this:
When you’re done playing gongs, it’s best to put the gong driver back in a sealed, perhaps opaque bag (that way it’s not as exposed to UV light). Our gong drivers have an ageing protection. However, this protection may cause white spots to appear on the surface from time to time. There’s nothing wrong with that… A short “shower” with hot water can help. Then allow to air dry. If you keep these things in mind, the Lava Edition Gong Driver will be with you for a long time.
A few words about wear Gong drivers are commodities. This means that the more intensively you use them, the faster they show signs of wear.
Imagine a car tyre: If you drive a lot, it wears out faster. Or a windshield wiper…
It is similar with gong drivers. Unfortunately, since these gong drivers are made of natural rubber, they may not last forever. Despite all this, these quality gong drivers – with the above tips – will give you long pleasure!
